Colour Me Kubrick proves that John Malkovich is the actor you hire when Christopher Walken just isn’t weird enough. Here, Malkovich plays Alan Conway, a real life con man (now deceased) that tricked hundreds of gullible Britons into believing he was Stanley Kubrick. Malkovich’s Conway is a bizarre, often creepy flamboyant who dresses like a long-lost member of The Cure; he knows little about Kubrick’s life and films and looks nothing like him. But the film takes place in a pre-IMDB era when working class folks were more than willing to welcome a little glamour into their lives. (excerpt) |
