Dispatches from the Tribeca Film Festival

film review published by Lost Writers May 14, 2006

Colour Me Kubrick proves that John Malkovich is the actor you hire when Christopher Walken just isn’t weird enough. Here, Malkovich plays Alan Conway, a real life con man (now deceased) that tricked hundreds of gullible Britons into believing he was Stanley Kubrick. Malkovich’s Conway is a bizarre, often creepy flamboyant who dresses like a long-lost member of The Cure; he knows little about Kubrick’s life and films and looks nothing like him. But the film takes place in a pre-IMDB era when working class folks were more than willing to welcome a little glamour into their lives. (excerpt)
